Wacky Wednesday: Gitmo Closes (Not the Prison Camp, the Office in Charge of Closing the Prison Camp)
Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried had a tough job: convincing other nations to take in Gitmo inmates. Seems that his job was so tough he was re-assigned and, as such, the Gitmo Gitmo office was closed.
But the prison camp in Cuba is still open.
Remember when then candidate Obama promised he’s close the camp? Remember the first day he took office, to much applause, he signed orders to close it?
Well, it’s still open.
Republicans wanted the camp to stay open.
We don’t want terrorists brought to the U.S where they will gain new rights and could tie up the courts system for years and force confidential information to be turned over to their lawyers or release them.
But the closing of the Gitmo office is yet another example of absurd, idealist Liberal policies and the lack of serious protests by Obama’s supporters have illustrated, once again, how unfair and unbalanced Obama voters are.
We had protests, marches, headlines, and talking points about how Gitmo was a stain upon America.
We heard lots of talk about how America’s “moral authority” in the world had been eroded because of Gitmo.
And the fact that Obama expended so much time and political capital pledging to close the camp only to simply drop it shows the fickleness and cynicism of his campaign and of the man himself.
He tarnished this nation’s good name to score political points and then, despite claiming to moral high ground, dropped the issue and moved on to the next big thing… blaming Rush Limbaugh or the NRA.

The Obama campaign tells Politico Playbook:
“We placed our final advertising buy of the election — the overwhelming focus of which was to double down on Florida and Virginia. The Romney campaign has tried to claim for weeks that they’d be victorious in those states, but from everything we’re seeing in the numbers and on the ground, we believe that they’ll end up in the President’s column on Tuesday night.”

“We’d rather have President Bill Clinton out there than Newt Gingrich or whoever the Romney team has on their side,” she said aboard Air Force One on the way to Wisconsin. “Look, there’s no one better to make the case for why the American people should send the president back for another four years, why there’s no better fighter for the middle class than President Bill Clinton.”

$ 111 million in 17 days. That’s pretty impressive. Additionally, the campaign, RNC and state parties have approximately $ 169 million cash on hand going into the election’s final stretch.
The campaign also boasted these “fun facts” about their October fundraising drive:
—Over $ 111.84 Million Raised Between October 1 And October 17
—91.72% Of All Donations Received Between October 1 And October 17 Were $ 250 Or Less
—$ 38,172,228 Million Raised By Donations Under $ 250 Between October 1 And October 17
—794,958 Donations Received Under $ 250 Between October 1 And October 17
—Approximately $ 169.04 Million Cash On Hand
—Contributions Received From All 50 States And Washington, D.C.
No word on fundraising totals from the Obama camp.

Filed under News | Comment (0)Remember the last debate? Everyone remembers it was a big win for Mitt Romney and a serious let down for the Obama campaign. But do you remember the days prior to the debate? The Obama camp was working overtime in trying to lower expectations of the president’s debate performance. They said debating is not one of Obama’s strong points; they even said Romney’s a great debater. They, in turn, were right — Romney owned the night.
That was two weeks ago. Now, the predictions from the Obama campaign going into the second presidential debate are 180 degrees from what they were. Instead of downplaying expectations of Obama’s performance, news stories are popping up about how the president is taking his debate prep very seriously this time around (he didn’t even take his golf clubs, y’all!).
During the first debate, Obama was flat and boring. This time, his campaign is promising an “energized” and “passionate” candidate.
We’re also hearing about how The campaign has also booked Joe Biden on all the major network morning shows Wednesday morning, signaling more confidence that their candidate will deliver a strong performance.
So what’s different this time around? Did Obama intentionally deliver a lackluster performance during the first debate to try and own the narrative coming out of the second? IF he delivers on the new promises this time around, the media will focus on him as a “comeback kid” of sorts — it puts him in an underdog position that sitting presidents otherwise could never capture.
This is my own conjecture, of course. On the other hand, the campaign could be trying to keep him on life support. Maybe Obama’s hearts not in the race. Who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow night.

“For his whole career, Paul Ryan has made an art of obscuring the facts,” the email says. “He’s done it on big things — like the fact that the Ryan budget that he championed in Congress, later adopted by the Romney-Ryan campaign, would actually end Medicare as we know it for our seniors and turn it into a voucher program.”
The email also contains a throwback to early September when Ryan claimed he ran a marathon in less time that what was actually true. “He’s misrepresented even the smallest things, too,” the email says.

In February, after well-received debates preceding Romney’s primary victory in Florida, the campaign told new debate coach Brett O’Donnell that his services were no longer required. O’Donnell had been widely praised in the media for Romney’s improved performances.
On Fox News tonight, O‘Donnell explained what he thought Romney needed to do in tomorrow’s presidential debate. He was also asked why he was no longer coaching the candidate.
“I think the governor‘s got a great team and we’ll just leave it at that,” he said.
Interesting…

On the Obama-Biden campaign website, this week’s “Letter of the Week” is from a woman named Brittany. She writes:
Hello! My name is Brittany and I live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. I am 25 years old (but I will be 26 on October 3rd!). I am a registered Democrat and I have been voting since I was 18. I am one of the 47% of Americans who fall under Mitt Romney’s definition of “entitled” and “unable to take responsibility for my life.” I have Down syndrome.
The intended message here is that Mitt Romney doesn’t care about people with special needs. Seriously?
Are we really supposed to believe that Romney considers the elderly and disabled “entitled”? I think most all Americans agree that these groups should be protected and helped. But it’s deplorable for the Obama campaign to insinuate that Romney views someone like Brittany as akin to those dependent on government by choice. It’s the future of entitlements for these people — who rely on the government by habit or design — where the political divide in America occurs.
NRO’s Charlie Cooke also took note of Brittany’s letter:
It really is one thing to look at old or poor people and say “you cannot look after yourself,” and quite another to say it to an entire country — especially a republic founded on the principles of the Declaration of Independence and operating under a constitution that begins, “We the People.” Likewise, I would venture that it is one thing to look at Brittany and to agree that she needs some assistance, and quite another to extrapolate this principle out to the country at large. Judging by its rhetoric, the Obama campaign lives in a heady twilight zone, in which the president is a moderate who advocates for limited government while the Republican ticket is a champion for anarchy. That the campaign could so casually imply that Romney-Ryan’s definition of the self-reliant would include those such as Brittany is not just intellectually dishonest but sufficiently deranged to demonstrate a worrying lack of understanding.
What’s worse, the last line of Brittany’s letter to President Obama makes my stomach churn:
P.S. My mom and her friend helped me write this.

Filed under News | Comment (0)Traveling to campaign in Virginia from Washington today, President Obama‘s team said the news media wants a “comeback kid story” for Mitt Romney.
“We know there are going to be twists and turns and ups and downs in this campaign,” Obama press secretary Jen Psaki told news media aboard Air Force One. “We know we’ll have them in the next 40 days as well. campaign we know we’ll have them it in the next 40 days as well. Mitt Romney has set it up and his team have set it up where they want the debate to be that moment for him. They fully expect that moment is going to be their turning point. We know people want to write a comeback kid story, so we’ll see if that happens.”
Psaki was also asked to anticipate the worst case debate scenario for Obama. “Well, he could fall off the stage,” she said.
