Watch out, Obama is going to do an end run around the Congress to get the gun control he desires. We have warned you before on this blog, that the Obaminator will use his “administrative” powers to put gun control in place.  In the following article by Bob Livingston, we see that prediction is coming true.

Will he get away with this travesty? It depends on all of us bringing it to the attention of the media and those in Congress who have not been bought off.

The Second Amendment is one of the most vital pieces of the Constitution. Without it, all the other rights are unenforceable by the people.  It is the linchpin, the cornerstone of our rights. Should it fall, the people will be left without a means to resist the government.

Write your Congressmen, write letters to the Editor and beat the drums against the move to remove our Second Amendment Rights.

P.S.  This is another reason that ObamaCrapCare must be defunded!

Obama Trying Gun Control End Run

May 8, 2013 by
President Barack Obama’s end run around Congress to establish onerous laws to infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans goes through the Department of Health and Human Services and its director, Kathleen Sebelius.
She is writing regulations to amend privacy regulations in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) that would waive Federal privacy laws and encourage your doctor to report you to the FBI.
First, some background. The Veterans Disarmament Act of 2007 contains Bill Clinton-era Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives language that encourages physicians to report their patients if they suspect the patients are a “slight” danger to themselves or others or are deemed unable to manage their financial affairs. This has already cost 165,000 military veterans their gun rights.
But as recent efforts in New York have shown, it’s moving into the private sector as well. Bureaucrats are combing through firearms registration and purchase records and supposedly private medical records and then confiscating the guns of individuals based on mental health information.
As Gun Owners of America points out:
According to gun rights reporter, Dan Roberts, firearms are now being confiscated from gun owners because of their mental health information. For example:
“[John Doe] received a letter from the Pistol Permit Department informing him that his license was immediately revoked upon information that he was seeing a therapist for anxiety and had been prescribed an anxiety drug. He was never suicidal, never violent, and has no criminal history.”
So now taking anxiety pills can result in one’s forfeiting their Second Amendment rights in New York!
If these regulations become law, you can bet that the filthy, greedy lawyers will be lining up to sue physicians and psychiatrists who fail to report any patients if those patients later go out and use a gun in a criminal act. The result will be that any person who sees a psychiatrist or admits to his physician that there are guns in the house will be ratted out by the doctors who don’t want to risk being sued. Many lawful gun owners will lose their gun rights this way.
This rulemaking is still in the early stages. You can read the proposed rules here. In the rules are ways to submit comments on the changes. You can also submit comments here. And don’t neglect to keep the pressure on the elected class, which has to be reminded that while their largess comes from K Street, their constituents live on Main Street.

With the run-off election for the Republican nomination coming up, Republicans in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District seem eager to deliver an early Christmas present to Democrats.

His name is Mark Sanford:

South Carolina Republicans offer Dems a free seat in Congress

(Image: AP)

Voters here have heard all the reasons to keep former Gov. Mark Sanford retired from politics.

He’s damaged goods. He risks handing a safe Republican congressional seat to the sister of liberal comedian Stephen Colbert. The 1st Congressional District needs a conservative who lives the talk instead of issuing apologies.

Yet, Sanford appears to be on the cusp of clinching the Republican nomination Tuesday for the right to take on Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a May 7 special election that’s sure to become a national spectacle.

In the grand scheme of modern Republican Party strategy, this makes total sense.  Why wouldn’t you want to focus national attention on your disgraced, philandering candidate?  It’s like the GOP is looking to shoot itself in the foot and South Carolina voters have volunteered the firearm.

“I think, by and large, people are forgiving, especially if they believe your repentance is real. If they believe you are asking for forgiveness authentically and sincerely, then I think people are willing to give people a second chance.  I’ve been around the governor, and it seems authentic and sincere to me,” South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Chad Connelly told Politico.  “I do think the people of the 1st Congressional District know him well. He’s run there before, and they’ve supported him. If there’s any group that’s willing to give him a second chance, this is it.”

Oh, the horror:

Forget threats of furloughed workers or reduced security at embassies.

Here’s what might be the most powerful incentive yet for members of Congress to come up with a deal to avert the sequester: the head of the Air Force today warned that the spending cuts that will go into effect March 1 could cause the military to eliminate those lovely miljet flights that lawmakers enjoy.

Members of Congress adore flying on Air Force jets, particularly for overseas trips — there are no security lines, check-in is a breeze, the service couldn’t be better, and it’s business class-only.

But if the government-wide cuts aren’t thwarted and the military has to pinch pennies, lawmakers might have to kiss those perks goodbye, Air Force Secretary Michael Donley told the crowd at the Air Force Association’s winter conference in Orlando, Fla., we’re told.

Only logical response:

Evil sequester cuts may force Congress to fly... commercial

Congress had the opportunity to fix the financial mess we are in with a couple bills lately. The Fiscal Cliff and the funding bill for the devastation of Hurricane Sandy were opportunities that Congress missed on taking real measures to fix the financial problems facing this country. However, they punted away the chance and instead loaded each bill with pork. These guys just don’t get it and we, for one, are tired of it.

It is time to unload the entire batch from Speaker, Majority Leader down to the janitor. Throw the entire bunch out and make them go and make a living and stop leaching off us.

Congress Sticks It To Us Again

January 4, 2013 by
Congress Sticks It To Us Again
PHOTOS.COM
The Federal government will collect more payroll taxes this year.
Happy New Year, everyone! Weren’t you inspired to see how our elected representatives worked late into the night, even on New Year’s Eve, to keep this country from plunging over the fiscal cliff?
And what a great deal they got for us! Taxes are guaranteed to go up for the vast majority of Americans. Spending cuts will be postponed. Government is going to get bigger. So will the deficit. Barack Obama can gloat that he forced Republicans to accept higher taxes. In fact, an anonymous “official close to the talks” told FOX News’ Ed Henry that getting the GOP to break their tax pledge is “one of the most consequential policy achievements of the last couple of decades.”
My, doesn’t that make you feel better?
Conservatives in the House made a last-ditch effort to include some mandatory spending cuts in the legislation. But that effort failed when Democratic leaders in the Senate said they would refuse to consider any changes in the legislation they had approved the night before. When the final tally was taken, the measure passed the House 257-167, with about a third of the Republicans voting in favor of it.
The margin of approval was even bigger in the Senate, where it passed by a vote of 89-8. Among the tiny minority that voted nay were such Tea Party favorites as Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah).
And even though everyone is sick of all the politicking and posturing, we’re going to go through all of it again over the next couple of months. That’s when we run smack into the debt ceiling, have to deal with mandatory budget cuts and are supposed to come up with some sort of budget for the next fiscal year.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner added fuel to the fire when he said last week that the United States would reach its debt limit on Dec. 31 and, thus, presumably run out of money. But then he piously proclaimed that he could use some “extraordinary measures” to find the funds to keep government going for another couple of months. So the rhetoric to raise the debt ceiling from $ 16.394 trillion, where it is now, will get a lot hotter between now and March 1.
There is no rest for the wicked — or for the big spenders in Washington.
In a classic example of premature congratulations, the stock market celebrated the new accord. The Washington Post reported: “The Dow soared 308 points, or 2.4%, on Wednesday, the biggest point to start a year in history, after posting the biggest ever year-end point gain of 166 points on Monday.”
But don’t expect the euphoria to last for long, as the realities of what this new agreement does and doesn’t do begin to strike home.
Just how bad is this Frankenstein’s monster? The bill is packed with pork for many of the Administration’s pet projects, including subsidies for plug-in electric vehicles, special deductions for film and television productions, a $ 12.1 billion tax credit for wind energy and even first-time home buyers in the District of Columbia. Numerous subsidies, tax credits and other goodies are buried in the legislation. You can be sure that the more we learn about what’s in the bill, the less we will like it.
Although Barack Obama campaigned on promises to raise taxes for anyone making more than $ 200,000 a year and couples earning $ 250,000, the final legislation raised the base a bit higher. The new limit is families and small-business owners earning $ 450,000 a year. They will see their personal income tax rate go from 35 percent to 41 percent.
But that’s a fraction of the hit that income from investments will take. Thrifty seniors who lived within their means all of their lives will see the taxes on their investments go up dramatically, while the incentive for anyone to invest in productive businesses will go down. That’s because taxes on dividends and capital gains will go from 15 percent to 23.8 percent. (The final number includes an Obamacare investment income surtax of 3.8 percent.)
In addition to those higher tax rates, couples earning $ 300,000 or more a year will see their deductions and exemptions phased out. The more they earn, they less they will be able to deduct.
One of the few pieces of good news in the measure is that the estate tax won’t be quite as bad as was feared. If we had gone over the fiscal cliff, the death tax would have been 55 percent on all estates worth $ 1 million or more. The new number is 40 percent for estates valued at $ 5 million.
But there is another tax increase that will hit every wage earner in America. That is the payroll tax collected for Social Security, which will rise from 4.2 percent to 6.2 percent. This is because a temporary reduction in payroll taxes that Congress approved two years ago, ostensibly to help stimulate the economy, expired on Jan. 1.
So every person earning $ 50,000 a year or more will pay an additional $ 1,000 in payroll taxes. So much for the myth that only “millionaires and billionaires” will have to ante up to help pay for Obama’s additional spending.
Taken all together, the Congressional Budget Office says this compromise legislation will add $ 4 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. And even that estimate assumes that the budget cuts required by sequestration actually do take effect this year. I wouldn’t bet on it. Although the sequestration cuts were supposed to begin on Jan. 1, the fiscal cliff compromise kicked that can down the road for another two months.
The bottom line is that this legislation raises income taxes, capital gains taxes, dividend taxes, death taxes and payroll taxes. It is a huge victory for Obama and his big-spending buddies in Congress and a big setback for everyone who believes that Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
In effect, we’ve given some chronic alcoholics the keys to the liquor cabinets. And now we hope they will somehow sober up? Don’t count on it.
Until next time, keep some powder dry.

We had to laugh when we read the second line of this AP posting this morning. It says :

“The Nevada Democrat says it’s up to congressional Republicans to come up with a plan that both houses would pass and President Barack Obama would sign.”

We did not realize that the “Congressional Republicans” had so much power that they could decide what the House and Senate can pass and the President can sign. If Reed is not the most stupid man in the US,  he surely is in the top ten!  Where is his responsibility as the Leader of the Senate? Where is the President on this?  All of the blame is being placed on the Republicans and everyone else is throwing up their hands.

We blame both sides of the political spectrum. It is extreme dereliction of duty for them to have not passed and sent a budget to the President. They should be brought up on charges for not fulfilling their Constitutionally mandated responsibilities. Some times the only way to get a mule’s attention is to hit them over the head with a 2×4! Ours is the following.

Over the past months we have posted several ideas about how to save the country money. We would like to add another. Cancel all Congressional and Senate salaries, benefits, perks. They and their staff receive NOTHING until they pass a balanced budget that reduces the deficit to 10% of GDP in ten years. The budget must have decreases starting in the first year and every year through the tenth. No accounting gimmicks will be allowed.

This means that now they personally will have to pay for their health club, their franking privileges, their parking at Reagan National, their phones, their staff and their office space. Most of these men and women are very wealthy so they can take a hit to their pocketbooks. It might get their attention.

The same goes for the President. The only benefit he will receive is Secret Service Protection and the use of Air Force One. However the use of the plane is for official Presidential duties only. No pleasure trips, no vacations will be allowed. He is rich, he can pay for the plane himself for those activities.

Until and unless we hit these guys in their greedy pocketbooks will we ever see any real action. This goes for both parties and the independents. Our new motto is: No workee, no monee!

Sen. Reid: nation appears headed over fiscal cliff

Senate Majority Leader Reid says government appears headed over “fiscal cliff”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the government appears headed over the so-called fiscal cliff because of a lack of progress in bipartisan negotiations.
The Nevada Democrat says it’s up to congressional Republicans to come up with a plan that both houses would pass and President Barack Obama would sign.
Reid says of missing the Dec. 31 deadline to avoid the fiscal cliff, quote: “it looks like that’s where we’re headed.”
Major tax hikes and spending cuts will hit most Americans if Congress and the White House don’t reach a compromise by the year’s end.

Ron Paul made a farewell speech to Congress in November. In the following link, you can listen to the last minute and a half. It is a spectacular finish to a very distinguished career and well worth the time to hear it. We only wish that the current administration would  understand what he is saying.

We might have disagreed with Dr. Paul’s foreign policy but had hoped that he would be named Secretary of the Treasury had Romney won. Unfortunately for all of us, that did not occur.

Ron Paul has now retired but we hardly believe that he will go out to pasture. We expect that he will be writing and making speeches for years.

Have a great retirement, Dr. Paul and thanks for the final words.

As you know, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. recently resigned his seat in Congress amid a federal investigation into his campaign spending and ongoing mental health problems.  Now, a potential replacement is stepping forward… again.

Meet former Congressman Mel Reynolds:

Meet the guy who wants to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress

(Image: John H. White/ Chicago Sun-Times)

Only in Chicago, folks:

Mel Reynolds, an ex-con convicted of bank fraud and having sex with a 16-year-old girl when he was in his 40s, wants to replace the embattled Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress.

Standing in front of signs that read “Redemption” Reynolds held a news conference on Wednesday saying he would run in a special election after Jackson resigned in disgrace last week in the midst of a federal investigation.

It was Reynolds who Jackson replaced 17 years ago —in a special election — after Reynolds himself resigned in disgrace after his conviction.

“It’s what you do after the mistakes,” Reynolds said, adding that his crimes were “almost 18, 20 years ago,” and shouldn’t be a life sentence. “I want to serve.”

And to those who wonder if he has no shame, Reynolds has this to say:

“I say to those people that I’m not perfect. If you’re perfect, I’m not appealing. I’m appealing to people who want to take a fair look at all of my history, all of my work, all of my education. What I’ve done since those times … and make a fair judgment,” said Reynolds, a onetime Rhodes scholar.

Oh, well if he’s a Rhodes scholar, then… Nope.  Still can’t stand this guy.

Last year, Texas Rep. Ron Paul announced that he would not run for reelection in 2012. With the final days of his last term now winding down, the libertarian patron saint took to the floor of the House of Representatives Wednesday to deliver his farewell remarks.

To read the entire 16-page speech, click here.

Here are some notable highlights:

–Paul concedes that by conventional measures, he accomplished very little during his tenure in Congress. But the fact that no federal buildings were ever named in his honor didn’t distract him from his ultimate goal: advocating for smaller government and more liberty.

“In spite of my efforts, the government has grown exponentially, taxes remain excessive, and the prolific increase of incomprehensible regulations continues,” he said. “Wars are constant and pursued without congressional declaration, deficits rise to the sky, poverty is rampant and dependency on the federal government is now worse than any time in our history.

“All this with minimal concerns for the deficits and unfunded liabilities that common sense tells us cannot go on much longer.”

–The Texas rep says the “major stumbling block” to real change in Washington isn’t partisan division, but a “total resistance to admitting that the country is broke.” For this, he faults both sides of the aisle, noting that compromise has been “inevitable since neither side has any intention of cutting spending.”

–He also commented on authoritarianism vs. the universal struggle for liberty and commented that the United States — once the most prosperous and free nation on the planet — has been deteriorating into “pure democracy”:

“Freedom, private property, and enforceable voluntary contracts, generate wealth. In our early history we were very much aware of this. But in the early part of the 20th century our politicians promoted the notion that the tax and monetary systems had to change if we were to involve ourselves in excessive domestic and military spending. That is why Congress gave us the Federal Reserve and the income tax. The majority of Americans and many government officials agreed that sacrificing some liberty was necessary to carry out what some claimed to be “progressive” ideas. Pure democracy became acceptable.

They failed to recognized that what they were doing was exactly opposite of what the colonists were seeking when they broke away from the British.”

–He stressed the importance of maintaining freedom on the Internet, to serve as “the alternative to the government/media complex that controls the news and most political propaganda.”  And also celebrated homeschooling as a revolutionary key to restoring limited government.

–Finally, Paul called on all Americans to infuse government with “the moral principles of peace and tolerance.” He cited Benjamin Franklin, who once said that “only a virtuous people are capable of freedom,” and John Adams, who said the Constitution was “made for a moral and religious people.”
