For Democrats to block a resolution honoring former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is revealing for a couple reasons. First of all, it is a slam against one of the most influential women of the 20th century. Aren’t Democrats supposed to be supporters of the fairer sex?

Secondly, Thatcher and Ronald Reagan forged the strongest bond since WWII between England and the US. Without their cooperation, the Soviet Union might not have fallen and we still could be in the Cold War. Additionally, they agreed on conservative economics which we are sure upsets Democrats.

In addition to blocking the resolution   the biggest insult is that no leaders of the current Administration are planning to attend. That is an insult to the British, to our cooperation and our mutual history.  Of course, Obama already has told the Brits that they do not count when he sent back the bust of Churchill.

This Administration and the Democratic Party show their meanness, their small mindedness and their lack of understanding of  international leadership. Americans who voted for them should be embarrassed–the rest of us are.

Senate Democrats are holding up a resolution to honor former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who died on Monday at age 87, a Heritage Foundation affiliate reports.

The resolution was to pass late Wednesday in the Democratic-controlled upper chamber, said Katherine Rosario of Heritage Action for America.

The group is a sister organization of the Heritage Foundation.

Meanwhile, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution honoring Thatcher, The Daily Mail reports. It was introduced by Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia.

The tribute cited Thatcher’s “life-long commitment to advancing freedom, liberty, and democracy and for her friendship to the United States,” according to The Daily Mail.

“To refuse to honor a woman of such great historical and political significance, who was deeply loyal to the United States, is petty and shameful,” Rosario said in her Heritage blog post.

“One truly has to wonder, what is it about Lady Thatcher that gives them pause? Her unfaltering commitment to freedom? Or perhaps the way she fought for individual liberty and limited government?

“Lady Margaret Thatcher was a principled politician who helped to foster the special relationship between Great Britain and the United States that we all benefit from today,” Rosario said.

Thatcher, who died in London, will receive a ceremonial funeral on Wednesday. Among the more than 2,000 guests expected are Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip.

The last time the monarch attended a prime minister’s funeral was when Winston Churchill died in 1965.

Other guests include former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — and three former British Prime Ministers, Sir John Major, Tony Blair, and Gordon Brown.

I know that some of our readers probably aren’t fans of the animated series “South Park.” I can’t really blame them — its story lines are usually over-the-top and laced with profanities. On occasion, however, the show offers up some pretty decent political commentary. I came across this video and thought it was especially poignant given the ongoing debate over guns and safety.

We’ve seen anti-gun Democrats makes some pretty radical statements lately, including a preferred reliance on rape whistles and the buddy system to ward off potential racists and robbers rather than firearms.  We’ve also been told that office supplies can be used to halt crazed mass murderers.  I wonder how long it will be until Democrats propose something like this…

INSecurity: A personal alarm system physically installed inside the user and triggered whenever the user feels unsafe or insecure.

Warning: Video contains a couple of bleeped naughty words.

Which would you rather have to keep your family safe: A gun or police with blankets & cocoa?

Good news, everyone — The nation’s bebt crisis has been resolved, thanks to Democrats on Capitol Hill. You know, because what you can’t see can’t hurt you, or something.

You can’t make this stuff up:

During a House Financial Services Committee hearing Tuesday on the budget, two Democrats complained after House Financial Services Committee chairman Jeb Hensarling instructed that two monitors in the hearing room display a real-time running national debt clock.

California Rep. Maxine Waters and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison both issued complaints about the displays, according to video of the hearing. …

Waters asked that the debt clock not be on display whenever Democrats spoke, Hensarling said during the hearing.

“At the request of the ranking member, the national debt clock will not be put on the screens during Democratic time,” said Hensarling, a Texas Republican.

WATCH:

In other ridiculous Maxine Waters news, the sequestration may cost America 170 million jobs. That’s quite a threat considering the fact that only 134 million Americans currently work.

See Maxine explain America’s doomsday after the jump!

Doug Schoen and Patrick Caddell, both former Democratic pollsters and now contributors at Fox News, write in Politico:

As lifelong Democrats, we can remember a time when the Senate had a Sam Nunn and a Daniel Patrick Moynihan on one side, and on the other, a Bob Dole — men who put country first, party second. Today, partisanship and party discipline are practically absolute.

Obama has brought partisanship to a new low by creating a full-time political advocacy organization — Organizing for Action — funded by secret contributions from corporate elites. OFA’s founding is historically unprecedented. No president has ever affiliated himself with a national organization other than reelection campaigns. Obama has taken the Saul Alinsky organizing vision to a national level.

In earlier columns, we’ve described Obama as the most polarizing president in American history, but even we never imagined that he would be this divisive.

Here’s my current working hypothesis: The degree of Democrats’ desperation for gun control is directly proportional to the absurdity of their proposals.

Here’s my empirical evidence:

–Department of Homeland Security’s directive to use office supplies to fend off armed intruders.

–Colorado Democrats — without any hint of sarcasm — proposal that citizens trade armed defense for whistles and judo chops.

Need more proof?

Another video published this week of a Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee meeting during which Democrat Sen. Jesse Ulaberri recommends ballpoint pens as a viable alternative for self defense:

Conclusion: It’s springtime for armed criminals in Colorado.

In response to a New York Times editorial yesterday, in which Democrats were encouraged to “press their political advantage” in Congress, Erick Erickson of RedState writes for FoxNews.com:

Never mind that the Republicans kept the House of Representatives. Never mind that the Senate Democrats have several vulnerable Senators up for re-election in 2014 from states Barack Obama lost twice.  The Democrats must act.

Americans should welcome the Times’ editors’ call for the Democrats to do something.  According to the editors, the Democrats’ should go big on “taxes, guns, education spending, [and] financial regulation.”

Yes, please, act on all those items. …

The House Republicans will never go along for the ride.  The American people will see just how far afield the Democrats really are.  Then in 2014, the American voters can remind the New York Timeseditors that most Americans use their paper as a litter box liner, not as a guide Washington should ever follow.

As Democrats cheer the beginning of for four more years of Democratic control in the White House this week, they’re also keeping their eye on the future and strategizing the best ways to hold onto political power in Washington.  To that end, national Democrats have launched a large-scale independent group with a singular focus: turn traditionally conservative Texas into a contested battleground state.

It might sound far-fetched, but Democrats running “Battleground Texas” are poring over the Lone Star State’s demographic data and they like what they see.  By engaging the state’s rapidly growing Latino population and urban concentrations of Democrats, the group hopes to turn this electoral dream into reality.

One look at the 2012 electoral map and you can see why they’re so optimistic:

Oh my: Democrats launch plan to turn Texas blue

According to Politico, Battleground Texas is stacking the deck with Democratic power players, including Jeremy Bird, former national field director for President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign.

“With its diversity and size, Texas should always be a battleground state…” Bird says. “Over the next several years, Battleground Texas will focus on expanding the electorate by registering more voters — and as importantly, by mobilizing Texans who are already registered voters but who have not been engaged in the democratic process.”

With its growing population, the state of Texas is on track to have 42 electoral votes after the 2020 census, so expect this fight to be a long one.

The Republican Main Street Partnership is dropping the “Republican” from its name in hopes of attracting more centrist Democrats, Yahoo News reports. Now known as just “The Main Street Partnership,” the group insists Democrats and Republicans need to find more common ground in Washington:

“The goal is to try and fill the void that is the middle,” the group’s new president, former Ohio congressman Steven LaTourette, told Yahoo. “The American political system is like a doughnut: You’ve got sides, but you don’t have anything in the middle and it would be my goal to work with Republicans and Democrats who want to find the path forward to getting things done and compromise.”

In retiring earlier this year, LaTourette lamented the increasing polarization in the House of Representatives.

“I have reached the conclusion that the atmosphere today and the reality that exists in the House of Representatives no longer encourages the finding of common ground,” he said. …

Members of the group include Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Mark Kirk (Ill.) and John McCain (Ariz.) as well as several influential House members: Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (Mich.), Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (Mich.) and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden (Ore.).

I’ll be honest — as a constitutional conservative, the mention of “compromise” raises red flags.  ”Compromise” on the part of conservatives generally requires moving away from our country’s constitutional principles in favor of more progressive ideals which focus less on cherished individual liberty and more on the collective good.  Ideally, these principles would be something both Democrats and Republicans  could agree on, but that seems less likely every day.  Dropping “Republican” from the letterhead only seems like further retreat.

Liberals don’t like private citizens owning guns for the same reasons they don’t like people owning cars: life can be messy when people have the freedom to make decisions for themselves.

If we look at FBI crime data from 2011 what we find is there were 12,664 known murder victims in the U.S. last year.  1,694 people were murdered by knives and 323 people were murdered by rifles.

There are 311 million Americans.

so out of 311 million people, 323 were murdered by someone using a rifle.

This is what is consuming all of our time even as the nation slides off a “fiscal cliff” and numerous other things like Benghazi, drone killings, and warrantless wiretappings are occurring?

And murders at at a 50 year low and firearms sales are at an all time high.  More people than ever are legally carrying a concealed firearm.

And 32,367 Americans died in car crashes for 2011.

Versus 323 people getting murdered by a rifle.

Democrats want to ban “scary looking” semi-automatic weapons.

This is their plan to keep Americans safe?

Disgusting.

Michael Ramirez from Investor’s Business Daily sums up what Obama and his party should do if they really wanted to ensure the safety of the America public:

Could you imagine if Republicans pulled a stunt like this? The media would be at the gate with pitchforks and torches. But, as it happens today, it’s Democrats who are playing games on Capitol Hill as our country nears the edge of the fiscal cliff and outrage is sparse:

Back in May, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi proposed in a letter to Speaker John A. Boehner that the House should vote to raise taxes on household incomes of more than $ 1 million.

“A million and above,” Mrs. Pelosi wrote. “Who can argue with that?”

Actually, Mrs. Pelosi can. Now that Mr. Boehner, Ohio Republican, has embraced the proposal in the “fiscal cliff” negotiations with President Obama, Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, and her team are urging their party’s lawmakers to vote against it.

In most conservatives’ eyes, Boehner has already caved by giving into such demands to let the Bush tax cuts expire on the countries top earners.  If he insists on adopting Pelosi’s plan, it would seem like the only good move at this point would be to walk away.  Tell the White House you’ve accepted Pelosi’s offer and Obama can take it or leave it.  No more games.
