Unknown – Unknown, March 5th, 2013
Georgia is a red state.
And yet somehow, a poll by the Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling shows that if Hillary Clinton ran for president in 2016, it’s a place where she’d be competitive in a general election. Even against Newt Gingrich, who calls Georgia home.
She has a 49/44 favorability rating in the state and would lead Marco Rubio (49/46) and Paul Ryan (50/45) in hypothetical match ups. She would lead by an even wider margin against Newt Gingrich (51/44). Gingrich is unpopular in his home state with only 39% of voters rating him favorably to 50% with a negative opinion.
It may not be a real surprise to Gingrich. In December, he said if Clinton were to run in 2016, Republicans would be “incapable of competing.”

Three-quarters of voters (75%) believe that it is a Constitutional right, up from 71% in 2011. This sentiment spans across party lines, as 91% of Democrats, 75% of Independents, and 56% of Republican voters all believe the freedom to marry the person you love is a Constitutional right.
It’s worth noting that Anzalone Liszt Grove Research is a recently-merged polling company formed by two separate pollsters which in the past have worked for the Obama presidential campaign and the Arizona Democratic Party for Former Governor Janet Napolitano (now serving as secretary of national security).

Filed under News | Comment (0)Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling has a survey out today that says more Louisiana voters would prefer Hillary Clinton over their own Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) for president in 2016.
From the survey:
If the candidates for President in 2016 were Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Bobby Jindal, who would you vote for?
Hillary Clinton………………………………………….. 48%
Bobby Jindal …………………………………………… 45%
Not sure…………………………………………………. 7%
Of course, Clinton has been in a relatively apolitical position for the last four years, doing things of very consequence, as far as Americans concern (most people don’t care about foreign policy). Meanwhile, Jindal has been running a state for the last five years.

The most epic possible 2016 match up at this early point would be between [Hillary] Clinton and Chris Christie. She leads him just 44-42. But our poll indicates getting the Republican nomination could prove to be quite a challenge for Christie. Right now Rubio leads the GOP field with 21% to 16% for Ryan, 15% for Mike Huckabee, 14% for Christie and Bush, 5% for Rand Paul, 3% for Bobby Jindal, and 2% each for Susana Martinez and Rick Perry.

Filed under News | Comment (0)In theory, the Republican Party unites behind a banner of tax & spending cuts. But when it comes to practice, the latest Maris-McClatchy poll suggests that Republican voters aren’t even willing to accept the consequences of tough governing decisions. Here’s a look at some things Republican voters oppose:
By 47-37, letting the Obama payroll tax cut expire.
By 68-26, cutting spending for Medicare.
By 61-33, cutting spending for Medicaid.
By 66-28, eliminating the tax deduction for home mortgage interest.
By 72-25, eliminating the charitable tax deduction.
By 56-44, raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67.
If Republicans on Capitol Hill are tasked with convincing Democrats to make concessions in the form of spending cuts, what concessions will Republican voters make?
